As we prepare to launch long-form writing projects for Pleasure Principled, the schedule for P2’s themed volumes is going monthly instead of biweekly. There will be more articles per volume - six to eight, most likely - and we’ll also now allow open submissions to each volume. That means you can make a little money (very little, admittedly) writing about what you love.
Notes on a Wota Canon
I’d long mused: Can a canon be made for Japanese idols and their music? And, more relevant to my own experiences, can a canon be made by the overseas wota community? I haven’t come to any final conclusions, but some thoughts I’ve had point not only to how our community is developing, but also highlights just how different we have to be from our domestic counterparts.

SweetS TBT - Lolita Strawberry in Summer, The Single
Maybe the people behind SweetS were taking a cue from the 2000 European single “Moi… Lolita” by Alizée - if Super Euro Beat works in Japan, why not a Super Pedo Beat? Or maybe they were looking around for an untapped market of music listeners and felt that fans of rorikon - that is, Lolita Complex - were in need of their own anthem.

After downloading the video, I watched it - and it scared the shit out of me. By that I mean I opened up the file, saw how young the girls were, and there was something about them that seemed… wrong. Like, jailbait wrong.

American wotadom has been waiting a very long time for Morning Musume to perform outside of Asia - and now that it’s happening, many of us are saying we’re going to make it to see this momentous occasion. I have no idea how big this is going to be, but I suspect that this will be the largest gathering of wota to take place in America.

This One Won’t Last Long
One of the reasons I start over so much is because I felt dissatisfied with the previous version - the theme bored me, the approach to writing didn’t work somehow, or I’d have a new idea which simply “demanded” starting over from scratch. I’m always convinced the latest formulation will be the one that lasts, that hits the sweet spot I’m looking for.
